Clinical Trials Studies Explored in Upcoming Episode of Innovations Featuring Translational Research in Oncology (TRIO)
DMG Productions explores the latest scientific breakthroughs in clinical health
EDMONTON, Canada(BUSINESS WIRE)Translational Research in Oncology (TRIO) announced today that they will be featured in an upcoming episode of Innovations with Ed Begley Jr., airing via the Discovery Channel on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 7:30aET and 7:30aPT. Check your local listing for airings outside of the United States.
This segment of Innovations will focus on clinical trials and what it means to participate in a clinical trial as a cancer patient. Viewers will learn how important their involvement in the testing of new anticancer drugs and combinations through a clinical trial is for the continued advancement of improving cancer treatments.
“A patient’s contribution to clinical trials is essential in furthering cancer research and makes them true colleagues in finding new treatments that lead to cures and/or more effective treatments. This in turn will render a cancer a chronic “living” disease as opposed to a fatal one,” said Dr. Dennis Slamon TRIO Director and Chief of the Hematology/Oncology division at the University of California, Los Angeles.
In addition, the show will address many of the common concerns associated with clinical trials, and will explain how clinical trials are rigorously reviewed by the FDA and hospital Ethics Committees so that patients are ensured to get nothing less than the best available standard of care.
“While many remain unaware, it is so important for patients to become knowledgeable and understand that a clinical trial is a very good treatment option for their disease,” said Michele Nehls, Producer for the Innovations series. “We look forward to enlightening our audience on clinical health and the treatment options available.”
